"BRICKSTONE HOUSE"
Roderick Street, Ipswich, Queensland.

A property with huge potential - commercial or residential - details here

Brickstone is a  Queensland Trust listed home dated from 1864, one of the oldest homes in Queensland's oldest provincial city, Ipswich. Brickstone is a King George IV stately home built by William Hancock. Hancock came to Australia in 1855 arriving in Ipswich in 1856. He was a brick mason and a contractor. In Ipswich there are many fine buildings to his credit, these include Orangefield and Cornubia (two of his own homes) Booval House, originally owned by the manager of the Bank of Australia, Rockton Villa, Colinton Station, Wesleyan Parsonage, the original Ipswich Congregational Hall, The Lands Office, and The Old Masonic Hall, to name but a few.

Hancock has many fine buildings to his credit and Brickstone House would have to be one of his best.

Brickstone House has a sandstone foundation and double brick cavity walls with rendered exterior to give it a sandstone block appearance. The Georgian design was more commonly seen in England in the late 1700's to the early 1800's.It has a snow roof , and contains three complete levels. These are;

Ground Level: Kitchen, Wine Cellar, Family Room, Laundry. A very short distance outside under the same roof, is a large Office currently set up for two computers, fax lines, fireplace, sink, and plenty of room for filing cabinets, desks, chairs and shelving. Connected under the same roof is a large bar-b-cue area and the original servants bathroom, each room is separated by a brick wall. There is a fully monitored alarm throughout the house and office.

Mezzanine Level: (A fourth level) Seven steps up from the kitchen is a writing room, which has a small pedal organ for relaxation. This area opens out on to a raised courtyard, with a high fence and allowing for solitude and privacy for those intimate get togethers and larger gatherings.  From inside this room and up four steps is the guest bathroom with a tessellated floor and original hand painted tiles set into the shower surrounds.

Second Level: Grand Entrance and Main Hallway, Wedgwood Room (Bedroom 1 with ensuite, and very large walk in wardrobe), Queen Victoria Room (Formal Dining room),
Chippendale Room ( Formal Lounge, Music and Games rooms). These rooms are 5 steps up from the 4th level (Mezzanine Level)

Third Level: Two staircases lead to bedrooms two and three the Napoleon Room and Josephine Room. The Napoleon Room has a small balcony which overlooks Ipswich City and the distant mountains. Both of these bedrooms have dormer windows.
