"TAHARA"
47 Old Bass Highway, Deloraine, Tasmania.
Tahara was built in 1889 and
is a National Trust and Heritage Council listed property. Constructed with
triple brick and slate roof, and extensive wrought ironwork imported from
England. The home was purpose built as residence with a substantial set-back from
the (then) main road. Deloraine is midway between Devonport (fast Ferry to
Victoria and Airport) and Launceston with its international standard
airport just 35 minutes away.
On 2.52 hectares of zoned residential land within the town
boundary at the eastern end of the town. There are extensive and well kept
gardens to compliment a luxurious lifestyle.
The gardens contains many rare and exotic trees and shrubs some of which are over 100 years old
and National trust listed. There a water view of a large lake
opposite the property.
The Internals:- iIncluding marble fireplace, blackwood fireplace, walls, doors,
cornices, frieze,
paintwork, staircases, crystal chandeliers, and murals could only be described as pristine,
carpets throughout and recently renewed in commercial quality pure wool;
Fired bricks (rock pointed) in original condition and in first class order,
original iron lacework cast in England in 1886 and recorded in various history books, wrought iron front fence inserts
are now galvanised as arranged by the present owners.
The formal entrance to the home has a "horseshoe" shaped drive and there
is a separate entrance to service the rear of building. Recent
improvements include underground three phase power, reverse cycle commercial air conditioner, triple garage with remote operated doors
architecturally designed and built of same period components to compliment
the original construction. The Kitchen has been modernised and including
Blackwood cabinets and laminated Blackwood bench tops. A security
