Originally settled by the renowned Bate family. "The Valley" at Tilba Tilba has long been considered as one of the most beautiful properties in coastal New South Wales.
Adjacent to one of the Coast's quaintest villages, the setting is absolutely breathtaking. The Mountain with its granite tors, tall timbers and rainforest gullies is a listed World Heritage Flora Reserve - a picture perfect backdrop.
"It is a house in which it
is easy to "get lost"... on the verandahs, beside the courtyard
pool, in the minstrels gallery, on the well stocked library at the top
of the old cast iron spiral staircase, or even in the main sitting room with
its grand open fireplace" 'Weekends for Two' Magazine.
The Main House
Entering the property over a sparkling stream there is are no buildings to be seen. Having rounded a gentle hill one comes upon the main house. This is a
unique home in a truly spectacular setting.
The House, Cottage, Studio and garden walls are all built with granite, hewn by hand on the property and
evoking emotive images of Provence and Tuscany. (Not surprising when you discover that the master stonemason was brought from France specifically for
the project.) Antique timbers, handmade terracotta tiles and forged ironwork combine superbly with the outstanding stonework to create an ambience of delight - rarely achieved.
The house is approached by way of a walled courtyard with salt water
pool. The entrance vestibule opens to a magnificent central living room highlighted by a massive
ten metre high stone chimney which houses two separate open fireplaces, one in the lounge,
the other a major feature in the dining room. Spacious planning has
created six large bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms, an office and a huge
farmhouse kitchen with cellar, coolroom and several verandahs.
The Cottage and Studio These two buildings are constructed from granite and brick quoins in keeping with the main house. The ground floor offers a large, open and sunny living room, two bathrooms and a galley kitchen. The upper floor has an office and bedroom. A balcony leads to a second bedroom and storage room with 6M x
10 metre studio below which opens to a paved patio area. These buildings have separate access and underground power.
